Yoga
I first found yoga as a very inflexible (physically and mentally) 18 year old during my first year of college. At the time I was playing collegiate soccer and spent my winters snowboarding. I loved being active but had no interest in stretching and of course, I thought I had zero need for mental-emotional support. (Again, I was in my first year of college.)
Stepping onto my yoga mat that first day, I was without a doubt the least knowledgeable person in the room, by far. The practice hurt, I was ridiculously tight, and it was held in the gym with people lifting weights and running around the track, but for some reason I kept going back.
Yoga brought me a sense of stillness that I didn't know I needed, and I quickly began to cherish those Thursday night classes.
Supported Alignment
not your average flow class
As an acupuncturist, I became disheartened by the overwhelming amount of injuries I began seeing in my practice due to yoga. I started to dread when a client told me they were practicing yoga and quickly realized that there was something missing, or rather too much being added to an already sound full body healing system. After taking multiple trainings and having my own share of injuries exacerbated by yoga, the veil was lifted. The flaws are vast beginning with 200 hr. trainings not nearly being enough for teachers with no prior knowledge in anatomy or Eastern medicine and tradition. Modern yoga has became more about working out, flashy transitions, loud-pumping music, weight loss, and nailing the perfect handstand for Instagram, and less about tradition, healing, alignment, and spiritual evolution.
Why Supported Alignment?
Local Classes in the Sunroom Studio
-
Tuesday 10:15-11:30 AM, All levels $20
-
Saturday 8-10 AM, Intermediate $30
“All levels” consists of foundational standing poses that are intentionally sequenced for therapeutic healing. The postures we explore are held for longer periods of time than in a flow class and they utilize an abundance of props. The class is challenging but in a manageable way that makes it accessible for beginning students as well.
“Intermediate” contains all of the features mentioned above plus regular practice of key inversions like headstand and shoulder stand. We also explore deeper backbends in the chair.
Payment is via Venmo, cash, or check, and a sliding scale is offered upon request. Space is limited, reserve your spot below.

1:1 sessions are one of my favorite ways to connect with you. This is a great way to work on a specific issues and/or injury, or just deepen your practice and understanding of alignment.
