Yoga

I first found yoga as a very inflexible (physically and mentally) 18 year old during my first year of college. At the time I was playing collegiate soccer and spent my winters snowboarding. I loved being active but had no interest in stretching and of course, I thought I had zero need for mental-emotional support. (Again, I was in my first year of college.)

Stepping onto my yoga mat that first day, I was without a doubt the least knowledgeable person in the room, by far. The practice hurt, I was ridiculously tight, and it was held in the gym with people lifting weights and running around the track, but for some reason I kept going back.

Yoga brought me a sense of stillness that I didn't know I needed, and I quickly began to cherish those Thursday night classes.

Supported Alignment
not your average flow class

As an acupuncturist, I became disheartened by the overwhelming amount of injuries I began seeing in my practice due to yoga. I started to dread when a client told me they were practicing yoga and quickly realized that there was something missing, or rather too much being added to an already sound full body healing system. After taking multiple trainings and having my own share of injuries exacerbated by yoga, the veil was lifted. The flaws are vast beginning with 200 hr. trainings not nearly being enough for teachers with no prior knowledge in anatomy or Eastern medicine and tradition. Modern yoga has became more about working out, flashy transitions, loud-pumping music, weight loss, and nailing the perfect handstand for Instagram, and less about tradition, healing, alignment, and spiritual evolution.

Why Supported Alignment?

Supported Alignment is a style of yoga that stems from the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar. Though it pulls from other teachers and lineages, there is a key focus on alignment, the use of props, and long, sustained holds which are hallmarks of Iyengar yoga.

I am blessed to have had incredible teachers who passed on their knowledge that came right out of India. I was taught tradition, lineage, alignment, intention, and I value and honor all of it very deeply.

Supported Alignment provides the dedicated student an opportunity to tap into one of the greatest self-healing practices there ever has been.

If you are looking to elevate your practice, get to know yourself better, and utilize yoga as it was intended, to strengthen your nervous system and to heal your mental, emotional, and physical bodies then Supported Alignment may just be right up your alley.

“Many people focus on the past or the future to avoid experiencing the present, often because the present is painful or difficult to endure...The pain is there as a teacher, because life if filled with pain. In the struggle alone, there is knowledge. Only when there is pain will you see the light.”
